A Survival Flight helicopter and crew will be among the many types of emergency responders in attendance at Saturday’s Great Lakes Emergency Preparedness Expo in Imlay City.

IMLAY CITY — This Saturday, Sept. 17, the Great Lakes Emergency Preparedness Expo will be making its debut at the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and youth 17 and under are free.

The event aims to help the public be prepared for man-made and natural disaster events and offers the chance to learn more about self-reliant practices like homesteading.

Exhibitors will offer products and services focused on emergency preparedness, first aid, wilderness survival, alternative energy, emergency communications, water purification, sustainable foods, alternative medicine, outdoor gear, self-defense. Seminars are also planned and will cover a range of topics including small-scale farming.

Representatives from local government agencies and first responders will also be in attendance including those from the Imlay City Police Department, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Lapeer County EMS and Lapeer County Emergency Management Office.

Show organizers noted that the University of Michigan Survival Flight Medivac helicopter will also be in attendance that day with a landing and takeoff from the fairgrounds.
